This is an ancient and rare hand drum from the remote Maposi/Moropote area of Papua New Guinea’s Upper Sepik River. The drum has the long barrel shape similar to the Mountain-Ok drums of the Telefomin area. This example has a clear and beautiful design carved in high relief and in-filled with strong traditional pigments. The drum dates to the 1900-1920 era, is 27” in height and sells for $2100.
