It is generally believed the central X design on older Western Highlands shields are abstract figures. This is a beautiful example from the Maring people, Jimi Valley and is ex. Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede. The design is strong, pigments bold and the woven cane top is tight and well patinated. It dates to the early/mid 20th century, is 60 5/8” (154.1 cm) in height and sells for $8500. Questions?
