Boiken Spirit Mask-New Guinea Art-Oceanic Tribal Art
This is a tall spirit mask from the Central Boiken area, Prince Alexander Mountains, Papua New Guinea. This would have been attached to a large dance costume that rested upon a dancer’s shoulders. The mask is pre-contact, stone-carved and is illustrated in my “Art of the Boiken” book of 2011, no. 65. It dates to the early 20th century, is ex. Michael Kremerskothen, is 36 ¾” (93.4 cm) in height and sells for $9000. Questions?
