Boiken Figurative Adze-New Guinea Art-Oceanic Art
This ancient Boiken axe has Janus ancestral spirit heads with domed foreheads bisected by a medial ridge, slanted coffee-bean eyes and pronounced noses with pierced septums. The cane binding is very well done and there is some old lose to the handle and the surface is partially encrusted. The axe is one I originally field collected many years ago and has successfully toured the world before making it back into my hands. The piece is 19th century, 22 ¾” (57.7 cm) in length and sells for $2,800.
