Papua New Guinea art objects and artifacts | Asmat wooden neckrest
This is an Asmat culture wooden neckrest with two great ancestral faces. While a good number of these cylindrical headrests have faces on each end few have such bold and striking examples with pierced noses and rows of delineated teeth. The neckrest has nice remains of white, red and black pigments, comes from a Munich collection, dates to the mid 20th century, is 33" (83.9 cm) in height and sells for $3800. Questions?
