Three Abelam and Boiken Culture Cassowary Bone Daggers, Classic and Underappreciated pieces of New Guinea Tribal Art by Michael Hamson Oceanic Art
Here are three fine old New Guinea cassowary bone daggers. On the left is Abelam or just to the west towards Drekikir. It is 11 ½” (29.1 cm) in height and sells for $650. The middle dagger is classic from the Ilahita Arapesh just to the west of the Southern Abelam area known as the Wosera. It is 13 5/8” (34.6 cm) in height and sells for $1100. The right bone object with its rounded tip and pierced top would have been worn under an fiber band on the upper arm. This one comes from the Boiken area, has some remains of color, is 10” (25.3 cm) in height. SOLD Questions?
