Michael Hamson, West Sepik Jungle, New Guinea Art, Oceanic Art, South Pacific Art, Tribal Art
This was once the river we were following on a ten-day trek through the Bewani Mountains from Lumi to Vanimo in Papua New Guinea's West Sepik Province. It had dwindled to this, we were in the middle of nowhere with a couple competent middle-aged local guys who had made the walk once, decades ago. It was dodgy at times and we all had injuries by the end but we made it eventually to a logging camp whose workers were quite surprised to see us emerge from the jungle.
